Five factors explain almost every price difference: the resources you get (CPU, memory, storage), how many sites you can host, how long you pay up front, the gap between the introductory and renewal price, and what is included rather than sold as an add-on (domain, backups, email, CDN, migration). ### Resources On shared hosting, memory and CPU per account matter more than disk space. A cached brochure site uses very little; a WooCommerce store needs more memory, because cart, checkout and account pages cannot be served from cache. If you run several sites, one unlimited-sites plan can cost less than several small ones. ### Contract length The big monthly figure almost always assumes the longest term, paid up front: 48 months at Hostinger, 12 months at OVHcloud and o2switch. OVHcloud Perso goes from €2.99 to €5.99 a month after year one, IONOS Expand from €1 to €10 after 12 months, o2switch Cloud from €1.86 to €16. Hostinger’s US page shows the same pattern in dollars: Premium at $2.99 a month, renewing at $10.99. Always read the small print under the price. ### What is included Two plans at the same price rarely include the same things. Check whether the domain is free (and for how long), how often backups run, how many mailboxes you get, whether a [CDN](https://hosterwise.com/en/glossary/#cdn) is included and whether someone moves your existing site for you. An add-on bought later usually costs more than a plan that already includes it. ## Intro price vs renewal price: what will you really pay over four years? Over four years, renewal pricing decides who is cheap. A plan advertised at €1.86 a month for year one can cost almost €600 excl. VAT over four years, while a €6.99 plan that renews at the same price totals €335.52. Those prices go up afterwards, though: Hostinger Premium renews at €9.99 a month once the 48 prepaid months are over, more than Hosterwise Starter at that point. Two traps to watch. A 48-month term is paid in one go: €143.52 at Hostinger, €335.52 for Hosterwise Starter. And compare like for like: a single 25 GB site and a 50-site account do not solve the same problem. ## What are the hidden costs of WordPress hosting? The costs most often added on top of the advertised price are the domain name after a free first year, VAT or sales tax, backups or email that become paid after a trial period, migration of your existing site, a CDN, server setup fees, and currency conversion when the price is in dollars or Swiss francs. - **Domain name.** Hostinger and OVHcloud include it for the first year only; o2switch lists it as always included on its Cloud plan. At Hosterwise, domains are ordered separately: .com at €14.99 a year, .org at €22.99, .ca at €13.99, .de from €7.99, all excl.
