Its terms only provide that a holder not domiciled in Germany must, within two weeks of a DENIC request (triggered by a dispute), appoint an authorised recipient in Germany for legal documents. ## What are the naming rules for .de? A .de name has 1 to 63 characters: digits, hyphens, the letters A to Z and the accented characters listed in DENIC’s guidelines. It cannot start or end with a hyphen, nor have hyphens in the 3rd and 4th positions. For an accented name, the 63-character limit applies to its encoded form. - 93 extra Latin characters, such as ä, ö, ü, é or ß - “straße.de” and “strasse.de” are two different domains - Name servers must be provided within four weeks, otherwise the contract ends ## What does the WHOIS of a .de name show? For an individual holder, DENIC’s public lookup shows no personal data, only the registration date and the DENIC member managing the domain. For a legal entity it shows the name, address, e-mail and phone number. DENIC’s RDAP service returns the same information. ## How do you transfer a .de domain name? The current provider generates an 8-to-16-character “AuthInfo” code, sends it encrypted to DENIC and tells the holder, who gives it to the new provider. If the code matches, the transfer is immediate. The code expires after 30 days. ## Which projects is .de best for? .de is a must for selling or communicating in Germany.
