Since 2 August 2021, a .eu can be registered by citizens of the EU, Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway wherever they live; by non-citizens living in those countries; and by businesses and organisations established there. These conditions must be met for the whole registration term. ## What are the naming rules for .eu? A .eu name has 2 to 63 characters, excluding the extension: letters, digits and hyphens. It cannot start or end with a hyphen, nor have hyphens in the 3rd and 4th positions. Names in Latin, Greek or Cyrillic characters are accepted, without mixing scripts. - Latin names under .eu, Cyrillic under .ею, Greek under .ευ - Term: 1 to 10 years, then tacit renewal for one-year periods (EURid terms and conditions) - EURid may check eligibility at any time ## What does the WHOIS of a .eu name show? If the holder is an individual, EURid’s WHOIS only shows their e-mail address and preferred language: all other personal data is hidden. A .eu transfer uses a 16-character transfer authorisation code (TAC), valid for 40 days or until it is used.
